Cedar Chapel Special School is currently seeking re-accreditation by the "Middle States Association" due in the spring of 2010. We are in the process of conducting a self study by completing a period of appraisal and examining the effectiveness of our planning processes.  A clear, well-articulated plan is in place to ensure that all stakeholders are informed, involved, and can provide input into the Accreditation for Growth (AFG) process.  Our school conducts regular surveys and discussions to obtain stake holder perspectives on the focus of the mission and beliefs, the importance of the objectives, and the effectiveness of the action plans. New ideas are actively solicited from the entire school community. All school constituencies demonstrate solid understanding and active support for the AFG plan and the planning process. Considerable evidence exists that communication efforts are ongoing and sustained, two-way and dynamic. An effective feedback loop is in place; feedback is collected from representatives of the how that feedback was used to influence decisions and is reported back to stakeholders including the schools SIAC committee.  A shared vision and effective ongoing communication exists between the planning team and the action plan implementation teams. In our efforts for continued growth we have taken immense endeavors to involve all stakeholders in Cedar Chapel Special School’s planning process. Our school also is a valued member of the Snow Hill Planning Council where AFG coordinators meet to collaborate regarding school improvement and successfully supporting each other in meeting AFG goals.  The team’s goals are to plan for growth and improvement in the education process thus continued accreditation by the middle states associations.  The strategic planning team clearly utilizes the process of team work.

(AFG) is a process developed by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools to evaluate school programs, facilities and growth in student performance.

AFG requires schools to establish goals for improving student performance. The AFG process provides for a continuous review of programs, services and student performance results.

The school begins with the vision of where it wants and needs to go, creating a unifying force for change. AFG is visionary and futuristic, rather than operational.

CCSS is the first Special School in the state of Maryland to receive accreditation.

“AFG involves key people in
creating a vision of the future, rather than letting the future happen to the school.”
